By far the best gym in Stoke. Quality mentoring for every aspect on and off the mats. The gym has a great bunch of people and the perfect atmosphere for beginners. As a beginner myself it was hard for me to get through the door but thanks to Jon it’s now the highlight of my week. Honestly can’t rate the place enough.

I was looking for somewhere for my daughters to go to learn material arts.... Jon came highly recommended, and I'm so glad we went along. Jon is very professional.... he makes sure he gives all the children his time. He watches... teaches... and gets in with the children too. It's very clean and Jon is hot on when it comes to hygiene and cleaning. In 4 months my girls have grown so much in confidence, they love their Tuesday and Saturday classes. If you are looking to join somewhere like this I highly recommend Jon and horizon BJJ

I took the 8 week beginners course. When I signed up I was mentally in a very low place. Not going to lie I was mega nervous when I went to my first class but Jon is an expert teacher and mentor. 9 weeks on I feel real inner confidence I've never felt before. I'm so thankful to everyone at the gym.

Fantastic place to learn BJJ and meet new people. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly, and the coaches are all helpful and keen to share knowledge. I started training several months ago after putting it off for a long while and I would highly recommend it to anyone.

I started taking my 8 year old boy to have a go at classes here to help him with his confidence and resilience. He absolutely loves it and Jon is fantastic with all the kids, he teaches all kinds of skills that school doesn't! My boy was welcomed with open arms and made to feel safe and valued - you can't put a price on that. 1000% recommended.

Great atmosphere with some genuinely nice folks. The tuition is fantastic and is served by exceptionally patient coaches who are more than happy to share their extensive knowledge, skills and experience to anyone willing to give it a go. I can't speak highly enough of Horizon. Why not give them a try? I guarantee that you will not be disappointed.

We don't force our members to buy expensive equipment from us. We allow children and adults to train in regular athletic clothes, as long as they are not too loose and don't have zips etc.

Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common questions about Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu training, classes, and membership.

How is BBJ different from other martial arts?

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu stands out for its emphasis on ground fighting and submission grappling. Unlike other martial arts, BJJ focuses on leverage and technique, allowing individuals of all sizes to effectively defend themselves.

How much does it cost to train?

The first class is free, then it's just £5 per class for kids and £7 for adults. If you want to train regularly it will be cheaper to purchase an unlimited membership which is £40 per month for kids and £60 per month for adults.

Do I need to buy anything extra?

No. We allow our students to wear athletic clothes they already own. For regular practitioners, they will often purchase things such as a gumshield and also some specific no-gi or gi attire when they can.

How do I get started?

To start your BJJ journey with us, simply reach out through our website. We are responsive and happy to assist you. We'll provide you with information about our classes, answer any questions you have, and help you choose the best class for your needs and skill level.

What if I'm older or not physically fit?

At Horizon BJJ Academy, age and fitness level are never barriers to starting your Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu journey. Our classes are inclusive and cater to individuals of all ages and fitness abilities. BJJ is known for its adaptability, allowing practitioners to learn at their own pace and gradually improve their physical condition.

What should I bring?

You can bring your gi or no-gi attire if you have it, but otherwise you can come with tight-fitting top with shorts or bottoms, ideally without pockets and zips. It's also a good idea to bring some water. In addition, please ensure you're clean, have trimmed nails and are without jewellery (studs can be covered with tape).
